Holiday Family Planner

Less to remember. More to enjoy.

Make room for the holidays that matter.

Build a manageable holiday plan, share the work, and keep gift details in one place. Choose your own celebrations and dates, then make the checklist yours.

No account needed. Your entries stay in this browser tab unless you choose to save them on this device. Gift details are excluded from the family printout.

What can we skip?

Protect the moments that matter and see what fits your available time and budget. Compare keeping, simplifying, sharing, or skipping holiday activities. All example estimates are editable planning assumptions.

Want to see the tradeoffs first? Read our worked holiday planning example: simplifying a 17-hour plan frees time, but still leaves a $25 spending gap under the example assumptions.

Include preparation time you personally need. Costs cover only activities entered here; add gifts, travel, and other holiday spending separately. Delegating changes your time only after a helper is confirmed; it does not erase household spending.

Saving is optional and stays in this browser. These activities are separate from the checklist below until you add your decisions.

1. Make it your family’s plan

Celebrations and gatherings

Add Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, New Year, or any gathering you celebrate. For a multi-day holiday, use the first day or your main gathering date. Dates are yours to confirm.

Updating adds missing suggestions and moves suggested dates for renamed or rescheduled celebrations. Completed tasks, assignments, and custom tasks are kept.

2. Share the work, one week at a time

Add your own task

3. Budget and gift tracker

Before you start adding gifts, plan your holiday spending before Black Friday. The guide walks through a sample budget, easy-to-forget costs, and a few checks to help you decide which deals fit.

Grown-ups’ section: hiding places and gift details appear only when you choose “Print gift list.” Saving on a shared device does not make this information private.

Gift forecast uses actual cost when entered, otherwise planned cost. Include shipping and tax. Other costs are a planning allowance, not a record of spending.

Keep your plan handy

Not saved yet. Use Save on this device before leaving; it saves your current entries, not future edits.

To make a PDF, choose “Save as PDF” in your browser’s print menu. If printing does not open in an in-app browser, open this page in Safari or Chrome. A family printout includes all tasks, regardless of the on-screen filter.

A simpler way to plan the holiday season

Start with the moments your family actually wants, then add the work needed to make them happen. Assign each task to one person who can own it from start to finish. Review the next seven days together once a week and remove anything that no longer matters.

Remember the small costs and school details

Teacher and caregiver gifts, party contributions, matching outfits, postage, wrapping supplies, and batteries can be easy to overlook. Add the ones that apply to your family; you do not need to do them all. Check delivery estimates with the retailer or carrier before choosing a shopping deadline.

Can I use this for more than Christmas?

Yes. Enter any celebration or gathering and its date. The suggestions cover general planning, shopping, meals, hosting, and travel. Add your own cultural, religious, or family traditions as custom tasks.

Will everyone in my family see updates automatically?

No. This planner saves only to the browser and device where you use it. Share the printed family plan or a PDF with your helpers. It does not sync between devices or send reminders.

Will my gift hiding places print on the family plan?

No. The family plan contains celebrations, priorities, and tasks. Gift names, costs, and hiding places print only with the separate gift-list button.

Add celebration dates and preparation time to your weekly family schedule. Use the Family Budget Calculator to check how holiday spending fits your monthly plan, and the Grocery List Generator for gathering supplies.
